I mainly post about airplane flights and credit cards, but this time I thought I’d try something a bit different and talk about the Marmorosch, which is part of Marriott’s Autograph Collection and one of the top hotels in Bucharest, Romania. I don’t usually stay at upscale hotels when I travel alone, but in this case, the price was only marginally higher than the Moxy (which is my most common Marriott choice), so I figured I’d go for it. This is my first attempt at a hotel review, so it’ll probably be a bit amateur.
Booking
I booked this hotel using Marriott points. It was around $600 for 5 nights or 72,500 points, which is roughly on par with the points value of ~0.8 ¢/point. My flight from London arrived around 1 am, but I didn’t make it to the hotel until nearly 2 am, so I was pretty tired. Amazingly, however, the main area was actually pretty busy. The other people who had just arrived probably were coming off other flights from Western Europe.
When staying at cheaper hotels, like Aloft and Moxy hotels, the elite perks are pretty minimal, but at Autograph Collection hotels, the elite perks are a lot stronger. First, I was eligible for an upgrade. I had received a notification that I had been upgraded from a standard (‘Silver’) room to a ‘Gold’ room, which is a bit larger. I had hoped I might get upgraded to a suite, but there weren’t any available (even for sale). Second, I was offered a welcome gift of 1 000 points (~$8) or a $10 food/beverage credit. I picked the points. Third, I’m supposed to get lounge access, but since the hotel doesn’t offer a lounge, I had the choice of free breakfast or an additional 750 points/night (~$6/night). I picked the breakfast.
The room

The room itself was pretty standard for a European hotel room but with a bit more empty floor space. Upon arrival, I saw that a tiny dessert plate had been laid out for me.

The most unique part of the room was the bathroom. The most characteristic part is the marble, which completely covers the bathroom.

The bedroom had the typical things you’d expect: a desk, an arm chair, a bed, and bedside tables.

In the wardrobe were the additional amenities expected, including a small safe, drawers, and ironing board/iron.

A coffee machine was also provided for those so inclined, in addition to what was offered at the breakfast restaurant.

There was also a room service menu that looked pretty good.

Amenities
One of the main draws of this hotel is the spa in its basement. The spa has relatively reasonably priced (for a top tier hotel) services, but it is a bit expensive for Romania. The lack of lounge in the hotel is a bit of a bummer for a top tier hotel, but I’d say that the free breakfast in exchange is worth missing out on the club.
The other major amenities are a nice weight room and a good restaurant. The concierge was also pretty knowledgeable about the local area, and the staff spoke English very well.
In summary, I thoroughly enjoyed my stay in Bucharest. The hotel was exactly what I wanted, and I appreciated the upgrade, even if I didn’t get a suite. I definitely recommend this hotel if you go to Bucharest, and the locals definitely agree with me.
