I’m off to New Mexico!

Hi readers! I’m taking a trip to New Mexico tomorrow morning to collect some rocks that are nearly 500 million years old; they come from the Ordovician time period. I’m going with my friend and colleague, Dr. Annique van der Boon. She’ll be helping me a bit to keep this updated with the travel side of what we’re doing.

Now, a little bit about why we’re going on this trip.

I’m nearing the end of my PhD in paleomagnetism (the study of the Earth’s magnetic field in the past) here in Liverpool, after 3.5 years. My research over the years has focused on two main aspects: the magnetic field’s direction during the Ordovician time period (my master’s thesis) and some magnetic methods work. Now that I’m reaching the end of my PhD, I have to start thinking about what I’m doing after. My idea is to apply the methods I’ve worked on to this time period, and I’m starting in New Mexico!

If you want to learn more about the science side of what we’re doing, follow our laboratory twitter @livunigeomag or you can follow the lab on Instagram, Magnetic to the Core!
